Tonight I was sitting here with my six year old son. Every so often a bit of wisdom comes from his mouth that makes me stop in my tracks. Out of the blue this evening Kynan said, “Daddy no matter where you go you are always connected to nature.” My ears perked up and I began my process of questions,” Why do you say that Kynan?” “Think about it Daddy, right here in this room, if you pick me up, I will be touching you and your feet will be touching the floor. The floor is touching the walls and the walls go down to the earth,” the little sage retorted.

I couldn’t argue his logic nor would I want to. You see I believe we are connected to everything around us: buildings, nature, even each other. By recognizing this simple connection and realizing that we, in fact, impact our environment by our mere existence. Our connection is every day in every way and we are part of the greater whole. By acting in partnership with the world we create a natural flow of events that is harmonious. By acting with ill intent and disregard for our environment and each other we are creating a very unpleasant experience.

Take today and expand your awareness of all around you in this moment. Recognize that you are a part of a larger entity. Nurture that entity. Care for that entity and see the results in your life experience. That entity is more than just the earth, sky, and water. It is also each other and our individual spheres come together is synchronistic order and the time we created. Look at the person you are passing in the street and realize that you are both connected to the same world. Realize you breathe the same air. Love them for who they are, Smile, say hello, nurture yourself through others. Change the natural environment by being aware and acting with conscience. Remember no matter where you go, you are connected to all around you and vice versa. You are a representation for them just as they are for you.

Stay connected and live joyously.

Foreword

My name is John Davis and I have an interesting story to tell you. I travel around the country telling my spiritual stories, or modern day parables based in fact as I like to call them, teaching, and facilitating healings. But I wasn’t always a speaker, teacher and healer. I, for twenty five years, have been a comedy sword-fighting comedian at renaissance festival around the U.S. That’s right, for over two decades have been wearing tights and living in the woods.

It was during my years living the glamorous life of porta-potties, beat up vans, and low pay that I began to question a lot of my beliefs. You see, I was raised catholic. My mother, an Irish catholic mother of the highest standing, was so faithful that she got her master’s degree in liturgy. That degree landed her the position of head of liturgical doctrine at her church, which basically means that when the priest wants to do a sermon he has to pass it by my mom. She then gives her blessing and the priest happily runs off to deliver his message.

Raised as a good catholic I was an altar boy, went to C.C.D. for twelve years (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine for you heathens. If it snowed, the church sidewalks were always cleared by my trusty shovel and aching hands. All those years of catholic upbringing lead me to an interesting place: I became an atheist. You see, the fear of God didn’t sit well with me. I remember a time in my most evil youth that my even more wicked brother swayed me from the faith by taking me for ice cream and putt-putt golf instead of church one Sunday morning. My career as a brazen blasphemer began that day in my eighth year.

The Sunday morning after “the alleged incident,” I sat in the choir loft next to Mom, who also the played the organ for the mass. The parish, in forty part disharmony, ended a hymn and the priest launched into his preapproved sermon. “Mortal Sin” he began. His sermon went on to tell of the severity of the punishment that would be laid upon any soul that would dare to sin against God. In the middle of his sermon, the priest, who I knew well for his weekly visits, mentioned that knowingly missing mass was a sin. I was doomed. Who knew that the ice cream and put putt would be so costly? I burst into tears and confessed to a higher power (Mom) what my brother and I had done. Mom tried to console me, but I knew it was over, my short life passed before my eyes. I’m not sure but I think that my brother’s life also passed before his eyes later that day.

After years of feeling lowly, unworthy and afraid, I decided there had to be a different way. I chose the atheistic path and though I am no longer an atheist I am grateful that I went that route. By becoming an atheist, I experienced the true fear of a world without faith. I became morbidly curious about the possibility of nuclear war, and knew that we were on our way to global mass destruction. I began having what I now know was depression. You see when you have nothing to put faith in, there is no hope. You are accessing your experience only through information at hand and most information we as a society generate is negative. So I believed we were headed to a negative place.

In reality the couple years as an atheist was a great base line for finding my eventual faith, a spiritual faith and not a religious faith. How I came to that faith is my interesting story. I tell you this story as a means of conveying a message. You see along the path of finding my personal spirituality I made several very profound realizations. Each realization built upon the last until they unveiled a simple path to God/Universe. I found a divine simplicity to my life. It was so simple and yet so completely powerful. I had found the awareness spoken of by the avatars of old: Jesus, Buddha, Krishna, Mohammed, and many more unnamed enlightened beings. To fully show the realizations as I discovered them I must tell you some of the stories that transpired. My story, from the beginning, was much like a lot of people’s stories. As I said I was raised in a good Catholic family, number six of an eventual seven kids. After my sojourn through many spiritual belief systems, I had settled into being a seeker. I had always been looking for the next teacher, the next guru, the next person who would take me to the next rung of the ladder. I was now in a place of just experiencing the world through spiritual eyes.

The stories ahead are meant to teach, not in the style of a classroom, but in the style of the enlightened ones of old. Through reading the stories and then through realization of the principles and then inspired action you will begin to see the simple path before you. As you step out onto that path, you will witness the life of your desires unfold.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.johnofpeniel.com/blog/2010/7/19/environment.html"><rss:title>Environment</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.johnofpeniel.com/blog/2010/7/19/environment.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>Beliefs Fear Feer Forgiveness Healing Judgment Personal Growth environment positive attitude relationships</dc:subject>

“You are a product of your environment. So choose the environment that will best develop you toward your objective. Analyze your life in terms of its environment. Are the things around you helping you toward success - or are they holding you back?” ~ W. Clement Stone

When not being the dashing man of spiritual thought, I have the cool title of Fight Director. I have been choreographing stage combat for more than two decades and find it fun and exciting. On a very rare occasion I get to combine my two loves. I recently have been working on a summer arts program for high school kids interested in the Arts. For six weeks I have taken twelve kids and taught them the fine and fashionable art of creating dramatic illusions of violence. What makes this program interesting for me personally is I get to work with kids from all backgrounds and the story I would like to tell is of a young man named "Tyrone" (pseudonym).

On day one of the program I noticed that Tyrone had a really bad attitude. He was the tough guy and had to keep everyone else in their place. His attitude was judgmental and at time cruel to the other kids. He is fifteen years old with a forty year old chip on his shoulder. Being the type who wants to be a positive force in the world my inclination was to find the root cause and help Tyrone work through his issue. I slowly began working through the mire in his head.

One day I decided to try a new tactic. I had each of the children tell me their most painful memory. We went around the circle and I was amazed at the horror stories that were told by these very young children. When it came to Tyrone his story started with, “My step dad knocked me out with his gun.” The story was that his step dad got mad and pulled out his pistol and hit Tyrone with the butt of his gun repeatedly. I then asked each of the kids to show me how, in real life, a fight begins. Several got up and showed how a fight starts. As a fight director everything is about the story. Each story has to be told physically and verbally to then be able to choreograph the scene honestly. It became very clear very early that Tyrone had been in plenty of fights. Usually he was the instigator of them as well.

“Man is a child of his environment”~ Shinichi Suzuki

After seeing his scene I asked him outright, “In your neighborhood do you have to be a tough guy?” “Yes,” was his wide eyed response. “So you have to fight to save face?” I asked. He continued telling me if he wasn’t tough he would be a target. “That must be hard.” I followed. His face grew serious and his eyes welled with tears, “Real real hard,” he answered. This young man who has a natural acting talent, has because of his environment become a mean hardened punk, because his environment says that he has to be that or be a victim. Over the next few weeks of the program Tyrone has come to trust me and I have been able to make some serious headway towards helping him surpass his environment.

The pivotal moment, however, did not happen when he was working with me. Early one day I walked off as the group was playing a warm up game called Murder Ball. I came back to Tyrone and Rachel (yup, another pseudonym) arguing. I pulled each one aside and had a talk finding out each side evenly. I talked to Tyrone first and his story made sense in that it was a miscommunication. Rachel’s also conceded that it was a miscommunication and then she asked if she could talk to him privately. I asked what about and she replied, “I want to share with him that I am from the same kind of neighborhood and am making different choices and moving forward in my life.” I called Tyrone over to meet with Rachel and I walked away. I let them speak for about twenty minutes when I returned. As I walked up I overheard Rachel saying, “So you can leave you attitude there because here you're safe and because we care.”

Tyrone made a shift that day. He became a happy laughing kid who began to excel in acting and stage combat. He had a few relapses of bad attitude because of subconscious muscle memory, but he quickly adapted back. I tell this story for a few reasons. One, because Tyrone is just a product of his environment. His environment is the way he was treated. If you treat a person differently from what they are used to, then you are creating a different environment for them with you.

What Rachel did was allow Tyrone to put his guard down and be a fifteen year old boy because he was safe and un-judged. I took a great lesson from Rachel and told her how proud I was of her leaving the argument behind and helping someone in need. When confronted with someone with a bad attitude instead of judging them, I believe we should give them the benefit of the doubt that their environment is different from yours and become a different environment of respect and love.

I have recently been sent a conspiracy theorist's video on how the oil spill in the gulf is the beginning of the end of the world. The interesting thing is the sources for the information are "withholding their names for fear of retribution.” The video is a fear spreading device that lays the blame on "The Obama Administration.” Buddha says, “What you think you become - you create your world.” If this is the case, is it not unwise to focus on negative things? Is it unloving and irresponsible to spread fear based thoughts around the internet and thus the world? If the global consciousness shifted its belief in line with the video, would that not bring about fearful things?

We are the creators of our experience. Science is now beginning to show us that fact with Noetic Science and Quantum Physics. Spiritual teachers have been saying it for thousands of years. Our belief/faith is what heals us. Our thoughts begin a physical response in our environment. Last year I had to block a few friends from my Facebook wall because of their negative postings, which I believe are harmful to the whole. I wished not to create with them so I chose to not look at their fear-based ranting. One even went so far as to spread anti-Muslim propaganda by forwarding a conspiracy theory video.

"The positive thinker sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the impossible." by Author Unknown.

It is for each of us to choose the world we want to create. Do we want to live in fear and depression or do we want the world of our dreams? Every story has an opposing story. Did you know the oil spill in the Persian gulf of Desert Storm had no effect on the environment four years after the spill? Nature has completely cleaned itself up (on it’s own I might add). That story is rarely told because it doesn’t ignite people to buy newspapers or move against the politicians that conspiracy theorists don’t like.

When I was younger I used to watch the news and the guy who showed us the weather was the weather man. Did you ever notice that now it is The SEVERE STORM team? How come it isn’t The BEAUTIFUL DAY squad? It is because the negative aspect ignites the ratings. Fear-based propaganda is everywhere. I travel a lot for work and noticed an interesting trend at airports around the country. Almost every airport has a permanently mounted sign that says,” The Threat Level has been raised to Orange.” If it is a scale, then why is that sign permanently mounted? Our society has grown ever more focused on negative aspects.

We have the opportunity to create a better world just by thinking it into existence. Can you start and end each day with the thought that we are creating a loving world? As we each begin to do this we will watch our world shift into a beautiful direction where wars are nonexistent and cooperation is the norm. Create with me a new world we can be proud of and our children can live in peacefully and happily.

I had the most wonderful conversation today with my love Kelly. She told me exactly what annoyed her about me. She did so because we have an open communication relationship. We share our experiences and let our partner know the good and the bad. It was a wonderful conversation because conversations like these allow growth. They allow the shedding of fear. You have to be vulnerable in your relationship with your partner so that you can have the relationship of your desire. When she finished telling me what bothered her we discussed the root causes of the reactions. We figured out where they come from and then we brought them to light as something that needed to be released.

When that part of the conversation was through, we continued on to what annoyed me about her and we went through the same process. She took it as I did as an opportunity to better our relationship and become even closer. We did not allow ourselves to fall into the trap of fear and get defensive. We each looked at our stuff objectively and are taking the steps to changing our behaviors because we love each other and don’t want to see each other in a negative state. So simple adjustments in behaviors can propel us forward into an even better life together (hard to think that is possible).

“To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with others.” ~Anthony Robbins

Today was a deep conversation and a very profound one for me as I found myself tapping into not yet released fears of my own and having an emotional reaction to them. Today is also interesting in that today Kelly and I have been together for a year. The anniversary of our coming together is the perfect time for such a conversation because today we are starting a new year and we can assess where we have been and drop the limiting behaviors based in fear and move forward unhindered. Next year we might have new things to address and probably will, but as long as our communication is safe and done with the positive outcome in mind we will continue to move forward into a new and joyous life together. I will always call it “new” because we are forever in motion and always sailing towards brighter and more brilliant sunsets.

One last communication: I love you Kelly, even when you annoy me, and thanks for doing the same.

Ignore conventional wisdom.”~ Anthony Robbins

Self doubt, low self worth, poor self esteem, each of these chronic conditions in life is based on one thing. That one thing these three culprits rely on is . . . someone else. Each of these relies on the belief or perception of someone who will judge us or has judged us. Each of us has a past that is the breeding point for limiting belief. Some of us have very few limits and rise quickly to great heights. Others tend to have beliefs pressed upon us throughout our lives. I am one of the latter. I had a nickname given me by my father. It is a word that still to this day I do not like to hear: “Bum.” I was told from an early age that I was a “worthless bum,” by a father who I am sure had no idea the limitations he was placing upon me in life. I am also sure that he acted as he did from his own limiting belief from his alcoholic father.

Our beliefs make up our creation; it is being proved scientifically with quantum physics, and Noetic Science. These disciplines are proving the teachings of many spiritually enlightened teachers of the past. We are truly creating our experiences with our faith. Our faith is simply our beliefs. Our beliefs become our perceptions, not the other way around. The human species spends around 85-90% of its lifetime in the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is a pattern of beliefs that is created in our past. Our beliefs are apparent in the declarations we make in the world.

“The mind is the limit. As long as the mind can envision the fact that you can do something, you can do it, as long as you really believe 100 percent.” ~Arnold Schwarzenegger

Today I propose a new Declaration of Independence. Today, free yourself from the tyranny of the limiting beliefs of others and declare a new and exciting life that is abundant and surrounded by loving relationships and prosperity. I have had many limiting beliefs in m y life and each of these beliefs have become apparent in my reality. When I shift each of these beliefs a new creation forms around me and I witness the divine nature of our simple reality.

Today We the People declare our freedom from the oppression of our past belief and sail forward towards new horizons in the ship of our own making. Who among you are willing to clear your slate and step into the life of ease and simplicity to reap the joyful life of desire? Today is the day of choice. Today choose a joyful, prosperous life of abundance. Say it aloud and have full faith that you are receiving it. The past is done and doesn’t affect you anymore. The future is yours for the making. This simple choice brings it all into your experience. It is not a struggle if you believe it is not. Your thoughts are creating so choose a simple and easy path and believe that it is already in motion towards you.
